All flaps are the same depth and meet in the middle
Very efficient design and can be used for most products
Offers little manufacturing material waste and is most common box style
Regular
slotted carton (RSC)
flaps overlap the full width of the box.
Resistant to rough handling-overlapping flaps provide added cushioning
Ideal for boxes with narrow widths TELESCOPE top/bottom
usually consist of two pieces that fit into each other , such as a separate
top or bottom
Flat bottom is suitable for paper, books and similar products
Easy to close
Full
Overlap carton (FOL)
one sheet is cut so that it provides a flat bottom, with flaps forming
ends and sides
Extensions of these end and side flaps meet to a close to form the top
Used for packaging books, and other single shipped items
Cut
out wrap (COW)
a scored and slotted sheet which features a fifth panel, used as the closing
flap, completely covering a side panel
Provides excellent protection and strength for long articles
Five
panel wrap (5pw)
a cut made with a steel rule die, which is mounted vertically on a wood
frame. Allows us to cut corrugated sheets to a desired shape.
Come in several styles: mailers-bin boxes-self erecting boxes-product

Die
Cuts (dc)
Corrugated
board can be converted into a variety of styles and shapes ranging from the
most simple "slotted" styles through intricate die cut wrappers and
point-of-purchase displays, to multi-part packages involving interior packaging.
Because of this versitility, selection of the correct package design can be
a complex and challenging task. This is the package that must provide product
protection throughout the rigors of modern in-plant loading and handling as
well as the warehousing and physical distribution cycle. In some cases, this
same packaging is then used to merchandise the product as part of an in-store
display.
The following four groups represent the basic styles that finished corrugated
board falls into after conversation.
Conventional Box Styles
Bliss Boxes
Die Cut Boxes and Folders
Interior Packaging
The
regular slotted box is manufactured from one piece of fiberboard which is scored
and slotted to form a body having flaps for closing on each of two opposite
faces. Lengthwise flaps either meet or overlap, and inner flaps may meet depending
on the particular style of box. Slotted style boxes are also assembled from
more than one piece of fiberboard, and have only one closing face.
Five
Panel Folder is formed from a single cut and scored piece of fiberboard so as
to provide an unbroken single thickness of fibreboard on three of the six surfaces
and usually a double thickness on the remaining three surfaces of the box.
This
style is made from a one piece blank, where the outer flaps overlap the full
width of the box. The FOL is especially resistant to rough handling and ideal
for boxes with relatively narrow widths.
Boxes or folders incorporating special structural features which cannot be manufactured
on conventional scoring and slotting equipment, must be produced on a die press
using a steel rule die to cut and crease the corrugated blank into a useable
shape that can be formed into a finished package. These items are referred to
as "die cut".
Interior packaging performs one or more of the following protective functions
in a package design:
